“Why You Should Talk To Your Family About Your End Of Life Decisions and Estate Plan”

No one is comfortable talking about dying. It is uncomfortable for the person thinking about dying, and it is uncomfortable for the person hearing about it. Most conversations about end-of-life topics end up being vague, short, and move on to other topics quickly.

The problem is, this often leaves parents and children with the idea that they HAVE discussed end-of-life scenarios, while in reality, all they have done is talked around the issues and made assumptions that they were understood. This can leave your loved ones making hard decisions without clear direction. Sometimes you have multiple decision makers who all have a different idea of what you really wanted.

You can avoid this by:

  1. Leaving clear instructions in your living trust.
  2. Having an Advance Health Care Directive.
  3. Talking through your wishes with the family members who will be making those decisions, no matter how awkward the conversation is.

Don’t put off estate planning and end of life planning until it is too late. Pre-planning now can save a lot of heartache in the end for your loved ones.
